Anomalous paraventricular anastomosis is a new nomenclature for collateral vessels in the study of moyamoya disease(MMD). It mainly includes choroidal anastomosis, thalamic anastomosis and lenticulostriate anastomosis. According to reports, it is associated with the high risk of intracranial hemorrhage in adult patients with MMD, causing significant harm to patients and their families. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the study of collateral vessels of MMD, including the imaging features, the relationship between collateral vessels and clinical symptoms, the natural history of collateral vessels and their changes after revascularization. This review aims to analyze the recent researches on paraventricular anomalous anastomosis in MMD, explore the treatment strategies, and put forward its research challenges and future research directions.
